This program combines the classic 4-day trek in Huascarán National Park with the ascent of a 6,000-meter peak in the Cordillera Blanca: the Nevado Chopicalqui.

Itinerary


Day 01: Huaraz (3,052 m) – Hualcayan (3,140 m) - Huishcash (4,200 m)
Transfer by transport to the town of Hualcayan, from where the trek begins, ascending zigzag along a bridle path to our first campsite.

  • Hiking time: ~5-6 hours
  • Distance: 14 km approx.
  • Campsite: Huishcash (4,200 m)
Day 02: Huishcash (4,200 m) – Osoruri
This day a very important pass is expected, the Osoruri pass (4,860 m), we will also have a beautiful view of the Azulcocha and Yanacocha lagoons and then pass by the edge of the Lake Cullicocha (4,620 m).

Day 03: Osoruri – Jancarurish (3,800 m)
This day we will ascend towards the Vientunan pass (4,770 m), then the hike will be to dare the Cedros valley and towards the Alpamayo valley from where we will have the most impressive view of the northwest face of the Alpamayo (5,947 m).

Day 04: Jancarurish – Viewpoint Alpamayo (4,450 m) – Jancarurish
Rest day. Optional: Short hike to the "Alpamayo viewpoint" to see the pyramidal figure of the snow-capped Alpamayo (5,947 m); This viewpoint is the only place that allows you to view, enjoy and take a photo of the pyramidal face of Alpamayo and winner of the title "The Most Beautiful Mountain in the World".

Day 05: Jancarurish – Huillca (4,000 m)
This day we leave in the direction of Huillca, for this we will cross the Gara Gara pass (4,830 m), followed by the Mesapampa pass (4,500 m).

  • Campsite: Huillca valley (4,300 m)
Day 06: Huillca – Jancapampa (3,600 m)
We leave in the direction of Jancapampa through the Yana Queñua valley. This day we will cross the Yanacon pass (4,600 m).

Day 07: Jancapampa Valley – Quishuar (3,800 m)
This day we will hike towards the town of Pishgopampa (3,600 m), then we will ascend the Tingopampa valley towards the Tupa Tupa pass (4,400 m).

Day 08: Quishuar – Tuctu (4,200 m)
This day we headed towards the Pucaraju pass (4,650 m) from this point we can see the highest mountains of the Cordillera Blanca such as: Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Chacraraju and Taulliraju (5,830 m). We will walk through the Huaripampa Valley, the route will always be surrounded by forests of Quenual trees.

Day 09: Tuctu – Vaquería (3,800 m) - Chopicalqui Base Camp (4,250 m.)
This last day we will hike for approximately 4 hours through the Huaripampa valley until we reach Vaquería where our transport awaits us to transfer to the place called "La Curva, of Chopicalqui".

Day 10: Base Camp (4,250 m.) - Moraine camp (4,800 m)

On this last day we will walk to a place called "La curva" where our transport awaits us to take us to Huaraz.

  • Briefing: Before your expedition, you will have a briefing at your hotel or our office with your guide and other participants in your group.
  • Transportation: From your hotel in Huaraz to the starting point of the trek, and from the end of the trek to your hotel in Huaraz.
  • Equipment: We use the best quality mountain tents (2 people per tent) and personal mat. Single tents are available. Additional charge
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (option for vegetarians or vegans).
  • All kitchen and dining equipment are provided so that clients to enjoy their meals, including chairs and dishes.
  • Mountain Guide: IFMGA/IVBV/UIAGM certified mountain guide (English/Spanish).
  • Cook: Experienced mountain cook (varied and nutritious meals)
  • Arriero: In charge of loading the donkeys and driving them. (*)
  • Donkeys: The number of donkeys depends on the size of the group. (*)
  • Porter: It is necessary to use porters from the base camp to the high camp. They carry the tents, food, climbing equipment, etc. But each one must carry their personal equipment.
  • Collective climbing equipment (ropes, carabiners, stakes, screws)
  • Emergency horse: A horse will be available with the muleteers in case of emergencies for evacuation purposes.
  • First aid kit.

  1. Where do the expeditions start and end?

  2. The expeditions start and end in the city of Huaraz - Ancash.

  3. How to get to Huaraz?

  4. By air:

    Anta Airport (ATA, Comandante FAP Germán Arias Graziani Airport) is currently only for domestic flights, so all international travelers by air must disembark in Lima and go through customs.

    • The best way to get to Huaraz is by air, currently there is only one airline operating: LATAM.
    • Flight time: 1 hour 10 minutes.
    By land:

    This is the most common route, with a paved road of 404 km from Lima. Try to book the bus cama service for a more comfortable journey and rest during the trip.

  5. What is the recommended season for expedition in Peru?

  6. The recommended months for the Cordillera Blanca are from June to September.

  7. How many people can a Mountain Guide take?

  8. The maximum number of clients per guide depends on the technical difficulty and the client's technical preparation, and should not exceed 3 clients per guide.

    • TOILETRIES: Sunscreen, Moisturizer, Insect repellent, Hand sanitizer, Wet wipes, Toothbrush and paste, Toilet paper, Personal medication, Blister protectors, etc.
