Day 01: Huaraz (2650 m s.n.m.) - Huaypán (3500 m s.n.m.) - Refugio Huascarán (4700 m s.n.m.)

  1. Preparation and Tips

    • Acclimatization: Spend a few days in Huaraz or another high-altitude location before starting the trek.
    • Fitness: Ensure good physical condition due to the demanding nature of the trek.
    • Gear: Pack appropriate clothing for high-altitude trekking, including warm layers, rain gear, and sturdy hiking boots.

  3. The hikes start and end in the city of Huaraz - Ancash.

  4. How to get to Huaraz?

  5. By air: Anta Airport (ATA, Comandante FAP Germán Arias Graziani Airport) is currently only for domestic flights, so all international travelers by air must disembark in Lima and go through customs.

    • The best way to get to Huaraz is by air, currently there is only one airline operating: LATAM.
    • Flight time: 1 hour 10 minutes.
    By land: This is the most common route, with a paved road of 404 km from Lima. Try to book the bus cama service for a more comfortable journey and rest during the trip.

  6. What is the recommended season for trekking in Peru?

  7. The recommended months for the Cordillera Blanca and Huayhuash are from May to October. Although the trek can be done all year round, you just need good clothing to protect yourself from the rains.

    • Date of your choice: We set the date you choose and adapt the trek to your itinerary.
    • Guaranteed group: We make sure to find participants for the group, with a minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 10.

    Group service: The group size will vary depending on the date, with group sizes being (min. 4 people / max. 10 people).

  13. In group hikes, you will enjoy the company of people of different ages and hiking experiences. By accepting a group tour, we understand that each person has their own pace, so don't worry if you are slower or faster than others. The guide will adapt to the group and ensure that everyone enjoys the hike.

  14. What to bring for hiking?

    • ESSENTIAL: Daily use backpack (recommended 20L to 40L), Water bottle or Camelbak, Comfortable hiking boots (lightweight with good soles), Quick-drying comfortable hiking pants.
    • TOILETRIES: Sunscreen, Moisturizer, Insect repellent, Hand sanitizer, Wet wipes, Toothbrush and paste, Toilet paper, Personal medication, Blister protectors, etc.
    • DUFFLE BAG: T-shirts or shirts, pants, underwear, hiking socks, fleece or polar, warm jacket it gets very cold at night, Headlamp, Waterproof gloves, Sandals or comfortable shoes for the camp, External batteries or Power Bank There is no place to plug in while walking!, Sleeping bag We recommend -10°C at least.

  22. All hikes reach more than 4,000 meters in altitude, so it is likely to suffer from altitude sickness. We recommend doing some activities in the Huaraz area before starting your hike to have a better experience.
