This program combines the Alpamayo Circuit with the classic Santa Cruz trek, bringing together two popular trekking routes in a single itinerary to fully experience the beauty of the Cordillera Blanca.

It's worth noting that this is one of the finest trekking routes in the Cordillera Blanca, as it encircles the stunning Alpamayo peak. This circuit is designed for those with previous hiking experience. Proper acclimatization is essential for this impressive and extended trek, which unites two significant routes through the Los Cedros valleys.

Itinerary


Day 01: Huaraz (3,052 m) – Hualcayan (3,140 m) - Huishcash (4,200 m)
Transfer by transport to the town of Hualcayan, from where the trek begins, ascending zigzag along a bridle path to our first campsite.

Day 02: Huishcash (4,200 m) – Osoruri
This day a very important pass is expected, the Osoruri pass (4,860 m), we will also have a beautiful view of the Azulcocha and Yanacocha lagoons and then pass by the edge of the Lake Cullicocha (4,620 m).

Day 03: Osoruri – Jancarurish (3,800 m)
This day we will ascend towards the Vientunan pass (4,770 m), then the hike will be to dare the Cedros valley and towards the Alpamayo valley from where we will have the most impressive view of the northwest face of the Alpamayo (5,947 m).

Day 04: Jancarurish – Viewpoint Alpamayo (4,450 m) – Jancarurish
Rest day.
Optional: Short hike to the "Alpamayo viewpoint" to see the pyramidal figure of the snow-capped Alpamayo (5,947 m); This viewpoint is the only place that allows you to view, enjoy and take a photo of the pyramidal face of Alpamayo and winner of the title "The Most Beautiful Mountain in the World".

Day 05: Jancarurish – Huillca (4,000 m)
This day we leave in the direction of Huillca, for this we will cross the Gara Gara pass (4,830 m), followed by the Mesapampa pass (4,500 m).

Day 06: Huillca – Jancapampa (3,600 m)
We leave in the direction of Jancapampa through the Yana Queñua valley. This day we will cross the Yanacon pass (4,600 m)

Day 07: Jancapampa Valley – Quishuar (3800 m)
This day we will hike towards the town of Pishgopampa (3,600 m), then we will ascend the Tingopampa valley towards the Tupa Tupa pass (4,400 m).

Day 08: Quishuar – Tuctu (4200 m)
This day we headed towards the Pucaraju pass (4,650 m) from this point we can see the highest mountains of the Cordillera Blanca such as: Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Chacraraju and Taulliraju (5,830 m). We will walk through the Huaripampa Valley, the route will always be surrounded by forests of Quenual trees.

Day 09: Paria (3870 m.) - Punta Union Pass (4750 m.) - Taullipampa (4250 m.)
On this day, we begin our ascent towards one of the most notable points of the journey: the Punta Unión Pass. During the climb, we will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the imposing snow-capped peaks and the Santa Cruz Valley.

Day 10: Taullipampa - Base Camp Alpamayo - Lake Arhuaycocha (4420 m.) - Llamacorral
On this day, we head to the base camp of Nevado Alpamayo, one of the most iconic mountains in the Cordillera Blanca, passing through spectacular landscapes. Then, we explore the serene Arhuaycocha Lagoon with its panoramic views before descending to Llamacorral to end another exciting day.

Day 11: Llamacorral - Cashapampa (2900 m.) - Huaraz
On this final day, we will have a short hike to Cashapampa, where our transport will be waiting to take us back to Huaraz.

  • Briefing: Before your trek, you will have a trek briefing at your hotel or our office with your guide and other trekkers in your group.
  • Transportation: From your hotel in Huaraz to the starting point of the trek, and from the end of the trek to your hotel in Huaraz.
  • Equipment: We use the best quality mountain tents (2 people per tent) and personal mat. Single tents are available USD 60. Additional charge
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (option for vegetarians or vegans).
  • All kitchen and dining equipment are provided so that clients to enjoy their meals, including chairs and dishes.
  • Guide: Certified trekking guide (English or Spanish speaking) for another language by request.
  • Cook: Cook trained to prepare varied and healthy dishes.
  • Arriero: In charge of loading the donkeys and driving them.
  • Donkeys: The number of donkeys depends on the size of the group.
  • Duffel bag: that will be with the donkeys while you hike. This bag should not exceed 7kg/15lbs. and needs to include your sleeping bag and personal belongings. During the day you will only carry your daypack with items for personal use.
  • Emergency horse: 1 horse will accompany the group in case of emergency.
  • First aid kit.

  1. Preparation and Tips

    • Acclimatization: Spend a few days in Huaraz or another high-altitude location before starting the trek.
    • Fitness: Ensure good physical condition due to the demanding nature of the trek.
    • Gear: Pack appropriate clothing for high-altitude trekking, including warm layers, rain gear, and sturdy hiking boots.

  4. How to get to Huaraz?

  5. By air: Anta Airport (ATA, Comandante FAP Germán Arias Graziani Airport) is currently only for domestic flights, so all international travelers by air must disembark in Lima and go through customs.

    • The best way to get to Huaraz is by air, currently there is only one airline operating: LATAM.
    • Flight time: 1 hour 10 minutes.
    By land: This is the most common route, with a paved road of 404 km from Lima. Try to book the bus cama service for a more comfortable journey and rest during the trip.

  6. What is the recommended season for trekking in Peru?

  7. The recommended months for the Cordillera Blanca and Huayhuash are from May to October. Although the trek can be done all year round, you just need good clothing to protect yourself from the rains.
